Faith and Mental Health Speakers
Biblical hope. Real stories. Honest conversations.
Faith and Mental & Emotional Health
Within the Church we have far too few conversations about the intersection of faith and mental and emotional health. But Jesus wasn’t silent on the matter. Neither is the Bible.
Matt and Sara Brennan help churches, ministries, and communities explore the intersection of faith and mental health with honesty, vulnerability, and deep hope. Their talks are rooted in both personal experience and professional insight—blending theology, therapy, and testimony to help audiences navigate depression, anxiety, grief, and more with compassion and courage.
Why this Matters
Sara is a licensed professional counselor who works with individuals and couples. Matt is a pastor, speaker, and someone who has walked the road of bipolar disorder.
Together, they speak from both sides of the story: the clinical and the personal, the professional and the pastoral, the hopeful and the hard. Their goal is to help the Church become a safe place where people can talk openly about mental illness, emotional pain, and the healing presence of Christ.

Below are some of Matt & Sara’s most requested talks on the intersection of faith and mental health:
“My Soul is Sorrowful to the Point of Death”: What God Has to Say About Depression
In one of the most honest moments in Scripture, Jesus admits to overwhelming sorrow. This message explores how Scripture validates and speaks into the experience of depression, using both the words of Christ and Matt’s own story of navigating darkness and encountering grace.
In Pursuit of Peace: Nurturing Gratitude in the Midst of Anxiety: There is a lot of anxiety in our world today. Often when we deal with our own anxiety, well-meaning people quote scripture to us saying, “Do not be anxious about anything!” as if ridding ourselves of anxiety was just that simple. But God has more to say on the subject. God’s word aligns with modern cognitive behavioral therapy techniques and helps us counter-balance our anxiety with faith and gratitude. This message offers biblical truth and therapeutic tools for living with anxiety. It explores how gratitude, faith, and practical disciplines can help ground us in peace.
When Marriage and Mental Health Collide: Through personal stories and insights gained from their own journey, Matt & Sara’s professional and personal experience offers a unique perspective on coping with and living with mental illness in a Christ-centered home. With a deep understanding of the challenges and struggles of mental illness, Matt and Sara are able to provide faith-based insights and practical advice to individuals, families, and spouses.
Does God Care? God is willing to meet us in the throes of grief, and experience our sorrow alongside us - even while pointing to the hope of resurrection. Walk through and embrace your grief on the road to hope and healing.
The Intersection of Faith and Mental Health: What role does spirituality play in mental wellness? This foundational talk explores how faith, therapy, and community can work together to support those facing mental health struggles. Designed for churches, universities, organizations, and leadership teams, it sparks needed conversations in healthy, grace-filled ways.
